The shape, design, size and width of the tire are fundamental aspects when choosing or changing it. After all, it is not just for reasons of beauty, aesthetics or manufacturers' preference that there are several of them, but because of the need to serve different environments, cars and types of road. Tire types
There are basically three types of tires on the market: on-road , off-road and mixed. The first is ideal for paved tracks; the second for dirt roads; and the mix is for both environments. The structural difference of the three concerns the size of the grooves, designs, cuts, width and height. On-road tires have small grooves so that the ground contact is closer and, thus, has greater grip. As for the off-road have a tread - designed by grooves - wider and deeper, excellent cuts for sandy terrain or muddy.
What happens on the track?
In practice, the only type of tire that wins on opposite sides is a mixed tire. If you put an on-road instead of an off-road , serious problems can arise. For example, if an ideal tire for laminated and bumpy environments is used on asphalt, it is possible that there will be severe vehicle wear and malaise in the cab. Now, if the opposite were to happen, be prepared for the car not to move out of place on 'inhospitable' terrain or to slide to the side of the highway, if it is a day of heavy rain.
But what about my car?
If you bought, for example, a 1.0 car, four doors and low, to run from home to work, alone, on a paved road, nothing better than a P175 / 70 R14, ideal for a passenger vehicle (P), with a small, radial tread with rim 14. This information is located on the side of the tire and is essential to signal the owner which type to use for a given vehicle.
Suppose you bought an off-road car with 215/65 R16 tires, but since this is the first time you’ve driven a vehicle with tires of this structure, you’re afraid of whether you’ll do well on rocking tracks, with rocks and lots sand. In that case, don't worry: know that the tire off , is ideal for that use!
The importance of choosing the types of tires for a given car and track, as you can see, is essential for a successful journey. However, these points alone do not make a 'perfect' vehicle.
